Checked luggage is expensive. Here's our tips for making your carry-on go further.
Create Some Space
Leave Behind
Soap, Shampoo & Lotion - Hotels and Airbnbs will almost always have shampoo, soap, lotion and hair dryers available.
Reusable Water Bottles - If you're traveling outside the US, it's likely you're going to a country you can't drink the tap water and will need to buy bottled water. These can be heavy and take up valuable cup holder room.
Our Tips
Plan outfits ahead of time but include a rainy or cold day alternative.
Stuff small articles of clothing like socks & undies in your shoes
Roll shirts, shorts, leggings, skirts etc.
Layer bulky or large articles of clothing flat on top of your rolled clothes (such as jeans, jackets, dresses & sweaters) THIS IS A GAME CHANGER!
How to Pack
On the zipper side:
Step 1: Create a base layer of rolled clothes - shirts, skirts, shorts, leggings etc.
Step 2: Lay any bras and swimsuits on top.
Step 3: Lay your bulk items flat on top of these two layers. Alternating each item (one left, one right) and allowing any excess to hang off the edge.
Step 4: Fold over the excess. One by one alternating each item.
Step 5: Tuck in sides and zip!
On the strapped side:
Step 1: Place shoes, fitting each pair heal to toe.
Step 2: Stuff socks or small articles of clothing in and in between shoes.
Step 3: Place make up bags and toiletries.
Step 4: Tuck hair tools and brushes in the edges
Step 5: Lay jackets flat on top using the same alternating method used for bulky items.
In your personal item:
Place books, electronics and snacks. Also a great place for an extra toiletries or make up bag!
Don't forget your charger, plug adapter, medications and passport! Happy Travels!
